Child sponsorship programme
- Primary school fees: the cost per Child is £85 per annum. Primary school lasts for 6 years
- Secondary school fees: the cost per child is £15 per month. Secondary school also lasts for 6 years
- Tertiary Education (University): this could cost between £600 to £800 per year depending on the course studied.
- A gift of £400 provides vocational training for an orphan.
Sponsoring a CHH (Child Headed Household)
According to IBUKA Rwanda, there are about 60,000 CHH (Child Headed Households) three quarters of these lead by girls. The eldest child could be about 13 years old looking after as many as 8 siblings in the household.
Finding money for food and clothes usually proves difficult, which leads to most on the heads quitting school to provide for her siblings. Unfortunately, some children are forced to find means to provide by turning to prostitution and begging.
To sponsor a CHH will the cost is about £50 per month or £10 per child in the household per month. This helps pay for food, clothing, transport and basic household essentials.
- As little as £40 a month will provide antiretroviral treatment to a widow enabling her to look after her children
- It costs £100 a month to pay a counsellor to provide home based care in the community.
- A one-off donation of £200 provides a small business start up grant to enable a family to meet its basic needs
- A two bed house for a survivor and his/her family will costs £2500.
